Prof. Choi (on behalf of SAIL members) received the appreciation award for the research project with POSCO. POSCO applied our AI (time series deep learning) method to control their blast furnace automatically for the first time. From hundreds of sensors, our deep learning models (DeepHeat and DeepBlast) automatically control a blast furnace. DeepHeat and DeepBlast respectively control heat and air-pressure of a 100m tall furnace.

Prof. Choi is also appointed as a POSCO Steel Professor to lead a Steel Research Center at UNIST (August 2017 ~ July 2020).
